This phenomenon, known as short-cycling, accelerates mechanical fatigue on structural seals, valves, and electric motor starters.
Furthermore, air storage tanks function as secondary structural heat exchangers. As hot compressed air enters the receiver tank, its velocity drops significantly, creating a cooling gradient across the vessel walls. This temperature reduction causes water vapor to condense out of the air stream, settling at the bottom of the vessel where it can be automatically evacuated via condensate drains.
